The BJJ Dutch Open 2024, the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championships in the Netherlands, took place in December, attracting top competitors from across the country. Renzo Gracie Holland made a strong impression with 29 participants, including four students representing the Tilburg branch. Overall, the results were highly satisfying!

Djesse Aarts
Djesse was Tilburg’s first competitor. Unfortunately, he found himself caught in a guillotine choke and was forced to tap out. Despite the disappointment, he showed great sportsmanship by stepping up to support the other team members as a coach.

Lizan Aarts
In an inspiring debut, Djesse’s mother competed in her first tournament. Due to a lack of participants in the 40+ category, she had to face opponents in the regular Adults division. After two grueling matches, she earned a silver medal—a remarkable achievement given the younger competition!

Jairo
For Jairo, this was his third tournament. Despite battling nerves, he performed exceptionally well as a beginner, advancing deep into a pool of 60 competitors. In the semifinals, he narrowly missed securing bronze.

Jos de Beer
Jos also put up a commendable performance, winning two matches, one via submission. Unfortunately, his journey ended just shy of a medal.

Strong Results for Renzo Gracie Holland
Renzo Gracie Holland celebrated numerous medal victories across divisions, ultimately finishing second in the overall tournament rankings. It’s an honor to be part of such an outstanding team!
